Fowey River Canoe Club hosted the second of the new season's SW Regional Hasler races on Sunday 25th October and were duly blessed with brilliant sunshine but perhaps a little windy. There were over 150 participants with their supporters and many had travelled from as far afield as Gloucester, Poole, Bristol and even a good contingent from Richmond. Fowey had 24 paddlers competing with many of them finishing within the top four in their classes. Once again, our up and coming Lightnings didn't disappoint with good performances from Millie Van Den Broek, Dillon Wilton and Rory Winch. The Club finished joint first with Exeter in the points table which leaves them 3rd overall in the Region after two races.
The Club would like to thank all those who helped make the day run smoothly as Golant is not the easiest of venues and the support of all the residents is very much appreciated. St. Sampson Parish Council are always particularly eager to be of assistance as parking is the main problem on race day and at their meeting were able to resolve the problems resulting in minimum disruption to the villagers. The Club would also like to thank the Parish Council for their very generous donation.
Although the Hasler races do not start again until next year, members will still continue to train over the winter with monthly time trials at Truro and various other events leading up to the 125mile Devizes to Westminster Race next Easter.
