FWE Front Page

Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition (FWE) is a major overhaul mod for Fallout 3 that changes underlying game mechanics and adds new features to the game. The aim of the mod is to improve the challenge, sense of immersion, depth of gameplay, and range of options compared the vanilla game. You'll find the wasteland to be a more dynamic but far less forgiving place.

In case anyone missed it, 6.03 was released last week which fixes a number of issues.  Head over to the changelog to see what's in the new patch.
Also, I assembled this brief little action sequence video (below) depciting myself and 6 followers doing battle with a large group of super mutants.  This video showcases the kind of action / FPS experience that FWE creates.  Enjoy!

FWE 6.0 . . . Released!

posted Aug 29, 2010, 7:40 PM by Oliver Kiley

Well, it has happened, FWE 6.0 is officially released.  Head over to the 6.0 changelog to see what's new.  Lots of exciting changes.  What originally began as FWE 5.1 has evolved into a much larger effort than originally intended, hence you’re about to experience FWE 6.0. The number of new features and enhancements was such that we felt this release deserved its own big version number.

We'll be updating the information on the website as soon as we are able to reflect the new changes.

In other news, FWE 6.0 is likely to be the last ‘major’ release of FWE. With Fallout New Vegas on the horizon, it has to hard to tell what the future will hold. Besides, don’t we have enough packed in here for you? That said, there is always room for improvements, tweaks, and bugfixes, so please continue to let us know your thoughts (we already have some ideas for possible addons).

X-quake has joined the FWE team and brings much needed modeling talent to the effort. x-quake will be updating lower quality models in FWE and assisting with future updates to the WMK FOIP. His work be incorporated into subsequent updates.

References what?

posted Aug 10, 2010, 9:32 AM by Oliver Kiley   [ updated Aug 10, 2010, 9:38 AM ]

Yes, that's right.  Thanks to the incredible efforts of Watto44 and themaintainthetpwns (from the official FWE Forums), we now have a complete reference section for weapons and armor.  This is adding to the completed reference tables for perks that jonwd7 has already put together. So take a look, stare at some numbers, and don't give yourself a headache!  We hope to continue adding to this reference section, adding information on ingestibles and CRAFTing as well.  Furthermore, you can use the reference section as a guide when tweaking weapon or armor stats for other mods to be more consistent with FWE.

In other news, work continues on the next version of FWE, so don't fret, we're still here.  We've mostly finished development and testing of features at this point, now it's just a little more fine tuning and polish.  We'll keep you posted as more develops.

So, while the FWE team is toiling away on 5.1 (we really are!) the website hasn't received the love and attention that it deserves.  In particular, the incomplete state of the reference section is most depressing.  If should find yourself with the will to help us out (or feel that I've sufficiently guilt tripped you), please head over to THIS POST on the FWE for the what's-what and join the good fight!

Well, We've managed to imbed some message forums (provided by the good folks at www.freeforums.org) into the website.  So head over to the Discussion page, register an account, and say something nice!  We've renamed the old goofy feedback forum the "Guestbook" (like it's 1995) if you still want to drop us a line (since you don't need to register for that).
Enjoy (and let us know if things are broken)

What's next for FWE? A look forward.

Well first of all, its worth noting that FWE has really taken off since the release of version 5.0.  In large part, this is due to the new configuration "Control Panel", giving players access to core features and improvements along with the flexibility to tweak the experience to their individual tastes.  It is a powerful combination.  I also think that version 5.0 shows an increased level of polish and refinement that makes FWE really fit and "feel right" with the fallout environment.  It's all very exciting.

As FWE evolves, I am beginning to see FWE grow from a large mod in its own right into a "platform" for a modded fallout experience.  In future versions (i.e. 5.1+) we're looking to add in a number of features and expanded functionality that will readily allow you to extend many FWE's features into other mods you might be using.  Did you know, for example, that currently FWE's night vision system allows you to add any helmet to a list of "night vision hats" which can then take advantage of FWE's night vision system.  Likewise, other custom grenade types can be added to the  grenade list and take advantage of the the FPS grenade hotkey function.

To aid us in expanding these capabilities, we've roped Schlangster onto the FWE team. He's developing some fancy new features for FWE that go along with the idea of FWE functioning as a platform.  Schlangster, for instance, has developed a new system for "stealth fields" which other mods can utilize.  We intend to pull together step-by-step documentation on how to accomplish these, so that the average user will be able to make their own (or other mods) "FWE Compliant" as easily as possible.

Other sneak peaks for FWE 5.1 include:

  • New energy-consumption HUD meters for night vision + stealth fields.
  • Integrated a fully customizable and more advanced version of Realistic Kill Reactions.
  • Integrated and customizable version of Zooming Reworked.
  • Incorporation of additional, lore-friendly weapons, armor, and other gear into the main mod.
I shouldn't spill too many more beans just yet, so I'll leave it at that.
Have a pleasant day, cheers!
