La ballade de Mauthausen Mikis Theodorakis - le "plus beau travail musical jamais écrit sur l'Holocauste"

L'âme remuant l'album de Mikis Theodorakis dédié à tous ceux qui ont connu la cruauté du fascisme et ont résisté. Les 4 chansons ont des paroles du poète Iakovos Kambanellis qui a passé deux ans de sa vie (1943-45) dans le terrible camp de Mauthausen en Autriche et a survécu.

Absolument la meilleure façon de décrire la vie dans Camp de concentration.

Même si vous ne comprenez pas le grec moderne ... vous pouvez ressentir la colère, la douleur, l'espoir et le désespoir.

Une telle sorte de ballades dramatiques puissantes avec une sensation distincte de «pathos» est rarement entendue dans la musique moderne.

Maria Farandouri a le «timbre» parfait pour chanter ce genre de chanson.

The Birds directed by Karolos Koun

In 1959, the Theatro Technis (Arts Theatre) stages The Birds by Aristophanes at the Odeon of Herod Atticus, directed by Karolos Koun. The scenery and costume are the work of Yannis Tsarouchis, the music by Manos Chatzidakis, the choreography is by Rallou Manou and the translation by Vasilis Rotas. The performance was pioneering, as Koun brought Attic comedy to life, stressing its timeless qualities and searching for its relevance to modern times. However, the performances were banned by royal decree after the 'scandal' of the sight of an ancient priest dressed in Orthodox vestments, reciting his lines as a religious chant. Over the following decades, the performance, with choreography by Zouzou Nikoloudi, was repeated often in Greece and abroad, gaining international praise.

In 1975 it was performed at Epidaurus, breaking the monopoly of the National Theatre of Greece

Many of the actors of the film (the actors playing Creon, Teiresias, the first elder) participated in the Greek Resistance movement against the Nazis (the "Creons" of WW2). The oxymoron is that Manos Katrakis (king Creon), who in this film impersonates the power which suppresses people, was exiled after the liberation of Greece for several years to a greek deserted island (Makronisos) because of his communist political views. On this island there was a concentration camp where communists were tortured to renounce their political views. There is a story from that period that reminds of greek tragedy. Katrakis was once again asked by the anticommunist state officers to sign a statement that he renounces communism, so that he could be released. So he asked his most beloved person, his old mother: Katrakis: Mother, do you want me to come home? mother: How would you come home? Katrakis: I'll sign and I'll come... mother: What will you sign? Katrakis: A statement. mother: What kinda statement? Katrakis: That I'm not what I am. mother: And you are not? Katrakis: Yet I am... mother: So, don't you dare to sign such a statement!
