During a Southern Ocean cruise (2012)

I am currently lecturer (profesor contratado doctor) at the Department of Chemistry of the University of the Balearic Islands in Spain.
My research interest lies in the biogeochemical cycle of trace metals in natural waters. More specifically in the role of natural organic ligands on modifying properties of trace elements such as bioavailability, solubility, reactivity, etc.
I use voltammetry as a tool to determine
1) the total concentration of metals,
2) the concentration of some natural ligands (humic substances or different reduced sulphur componds) and
3) the organic speciation of trace metals (mainly Fe and Cu) by Competing Ligand Equilibration- Adsorptive Cathodic Strippiing Voltammetry.
Our laboratory also utilizes other electrochemical techniques, chemioluminescence, fluorescence and ICP-MS  to complement the voltammetric measurements.
