Requirements for FFE Course
- Must be 21 years of age
- Bring unloaded Firearm in holster or case
- Bring at least 100 rounds of Factory Ammunition - NO Reloads
- Bring a cleaning kit for your pistol
- Eye and Hearing Protection
Kentucky CCDW Process
First step is to take FFE Basic Handgun Course, once completed you will receive your Course Certificate that day. Then follow either process below.
Using Your Certificate to receive a Ky CCDW License

Go online to https://kspportal.ky.gov/CCDW/Public/Login.aspx
a. Create an account
b. Certificate of Training (scanned or a picture of it with your phone)
c. Photo (scanned) or a selfie with your phone
d. $50 Fee
e. You will receive a “Flash Pak” in the mail or an email telling you when to pick up your KY CCDW License <15 days
f. Take the “Flash Pak” to the Sheriff’s Office
g. Pay $20 Fee to the Sheriff (check) and pick up your KY CCDW License
OR
Go to your local Sheriff’s Office (in the county in which you reside) with a copy of your Basic Introduction to Handguns Certificate and two (2) checks per person.
a. Call your local Sheriff’s Office about photo, some will take it for you there for a small fee
b. Use of Force Certification Form
c. Two (2) separate checks
i. $40 for Kentucky State Police
ii. $20 for your Local Sheriff’s Office
d. You will receive a “Flash Pak” in the mail telling you when to pick up your KY CCDW License <60 days
If you apply at the Sheriff’s Office the process can take up to 65 days.
If you apply online the process can take up to 14 days.
