(At this time the Hideaway cottage is unavailable)

3  cottages with gorgeous water views-Viking and Nook; partial water view from the Hideaway, and all with our beach just a flip flop across the road (and down the driveway for the Hideaway cottage).

If you love the outdoors and enjoy activities like camping, our rustic cottages may be just for you! They were built in the '50s and have loads of character and many return guests. But even after cleaning you may find a little sand and an occasional bug, just like at home. Firefly Cottages are much more laid-back than a condo or hotel and over 95% of the guests enjoy their time immensely.  But for the <5% who think they're getting a modern 21st century villa, these family style cabins may not be the place for you.  We do boast a high recommendation and returning guest rate.

Bring your adventurous spirit and explore Door County with a home base of the finest beaches Door County offers.
Don’t forget your suit and towel!

If you're looking for a romantic escape that includes falling asleep and waking to the sound of the waves, sipping wine on the beach, listening to the still of the night and moonlit walks at the water's edge..or if you'd like to recreate those childhood memories with your family without the intrusion of internet, cable or clocks, this is the place for you! Enjoy swimming, beachcombing, campfires, fishing off the pier, movie nights & fireflies.
Our cottages are perfect to escape the hustle & bustle!
And we're good-dog friendly!

The Viking cottage, with beautiful water view sleeps 6. You'll find a double bed in the downstairs bedroom & 2 doubles in the loft (open-concept with steep stairs-not for toddlers!), full bath, kitchen including dishes, utensils and cookware (no dishwasher) & wood burning fireplace and TV with antenna channels & DVD.

The cozy, studio style Nook is best for couples and is about 30' from the one lane road, across from which is our beach. It has a soothing water view, queen bed in the main room, (plus a sleeper sofa in the adjoining room-best for kids-not meant for older backs when opened into a bed), 3/4 bath, full kitchen including dishes, utensils & cookware and DVD-ONLY TV. PLEASE NOTE This is a 3 season cottage that we only rent into October; heated by baseboard heaters and a small propane wall heater (no central furnace) so you may want to bundle up if the weather's cold in spring or fall.

Linens: All cottages are supplied with one set of sheets and bedding per bed, and several dish towels & cloths, at the beginning of your stay. There is not a daily housekeeping service and linens are not changed by us during your stay. Cottages are supplied with pillows, mattress pads, blankets and/or comforters. Bath Towels are not provided. Beach Towels are not provided.

Kitchens are supplied with glasses, dishes, pots/pans and a variety of cooking utensils. While these are fully functional kitchens, do not expect that they are gourmet kitchens. They are cottage-y, as in not always the newest appliances, dishes may not always match, etc.
Highchairs, booster chairs, strollers and cribs are not provided.

Paper/Cleaning Supplies: Beginning supplies are provided that include toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap and garbage bags. This supply is only to get you by for the first couple of days and will not be replenished by management during the stay. All additional items needed i.e. additional toilet paper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, charcoal and lighter, firewood, soap, shampoo, etc are the guests' responsibility.

We do not have A/C. Usually the lake breeze is perfect, but we have good 'ol fashioned fans on hand too. You'll have an opportunity to unplug- no WiFi (and sometimes spotty cell reception). TV in the Viking is antenna channels only + DVD player.  The Nook is DVD only. Our return guests welcome this step back in time :)

Each cottage has a charcoal grill & there is a shared fire pit on the beach.

Thanks so much! Let us know if you have questions.

Additional info on the beach and surrounding area :
~ The beach:  It is walk-out beach, down a gradual slope from the one lane road, across from which are the cottages. Our beach is a great place to swim, launch kayaks, build sand castles, hang out in the sun, or read a book while watching the ever changing lake.  The Sturgeon Bay channel is about a 1/4 mile to the north, where you can walk out on the pier, fish and watch the boats passing.
Please note that this is a natural area. We sometimes get seaweed washing up, sometimes not, a week or so of the summer we may get small baitfish called Alewives that wash up (the week changes year to year and sometimes they don't come in at all). We do not comb our beach and the DNR can even ticket people for tilling under the beach grass. We leave the work to nature. We really enjoy the area and hope you do too.

~ The lake: Lake Michigan is a big body of water where water temperatures and conditions are constantly changing on daily winds and weather. The water in the shallows near shore will always be warmer than further offshore.  However, don't expect it to be anything like a small inland lake that warms to bath water like temps in summer. Most days of the summer season Lake Michigan water temperatures are just fine for all water sport activities.  They vary from very brisk to refreshingly cool.
Also, the lake can be glassy calm or wavy enough to windsurf; it all depends on the day. Again, it is always changing and that is what makes Lake Michigan a great place to visit.

~ The road: South Lake Michigan Dr. is a very small, very rustic 1.5 car wide road. People are (or learn to be!) neighborly and pull to the side when a car comes from the opposite direction.  There is minimal traffic; mostly people who live or are staying on the road. *If you are bringing a boat or snowmobile trailer, please be aware the road is narrow and there are many trees at the roadway and very low hanging branches.

~ Hiking: Right up the beach/road is the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve! https://www.doorcountylandtrust.org/sturgeon-bay-ship-canal-nature-preserve/ Hike through the Door County Land Trust's 445+ acres of beach, sand dunes, ancient ridge and swale shorelines, old-growth hemlocks, white pine, birch and open fields. The trail provides 2.5 miles of easy to moderate trails and excellent viewing of the two lighthouses.
