Cassie MacDonald

Cassie Anne MacDonald has been playing the fiddle since she was seven and step dancing since she was 5. She studied Classical violin with Yvonne DeRoller and Celtic fiddle with Kendra MacGillivray and Glen Graham. Since 2004 she has been studying with popular fiddler, Gordon Stobbe, whom she has accompanied at the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival in 2006.

At the Age of nine, Cassie placed first in the Junior Novice Fiddle Competition at the Loon Mountain Highland Games, the largest highland gathering in Eastern U.S.A. In 2004, she placed in the top five at the New England Scottish Fiddle Championship and was a soloist in the 2009 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. Cassie was invited to represent Nova Scotia as a special guest at the 2009 Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle championship, Canada’s Premier fiddle competition which was held this summer in Ottawa.

Cassie has participated in the World Highland Dancing Championship in Scotland, has taught step dance for several years and is a member of the Amethyst Highland Dance Step Troupe. Among her many dancing awards is the James L. MacKenzie Award which is given to a Nova Scotian Highland dancer who shows a passion and love for the art of dancing and who uses her talent to benefit the community.

Cassie is a student at the University of Kings College.
