Mitrice Richardson, age 24, went missing after she was released from the Malibu Lost Hills police station at 12:37a.m. Thursday September 17th 2009. She suffered from mental health issues and was released into the remote Malibu canyon area without a car, I.D, phone, money or assistance. Mitrice was an upstanding citizen and student and deserved better treatment than what the Malibu sheriff's gave. This did not have to happen.
Mitrice was a CAL STATE FULLERTON graduate with a 4.0 GPA and was set to begin a doctoral program.

On Saturday November 6, 2010 Sheriff Lee Baca arranged for theVolunteer Search and Rescue team to take Latice to the site where Mitrice's body was discovered. The hike was long and the terrain was difficult at times but the trek was well worth every step as Latice was able to place mementos at the place where Mitrice was found. The tragic end to such a wonderful life was in a remote location with the sound of a single bird chirping in the background and a peace that surrounded the secluded ravine. Thank you to Sheriff Lee Baca, Commander Lopez and the entire search and rescue team for allowing this precious memory to exist.
