There are two members of the staff at the Family History Center that are registered as Merit Badge Counselors for the Genealogy Merit Badge. If an individual scout or a scout troop is interested, they may call the Family History Center at 435-586-0432 to schedule an appointment. The instruction will include a power point presentation, access to computers, and other resources at the center for completion of requirements. The merit badge worksheet and cards are available at the center. At conclusion of the three hour presentation, the boys will leave with their merit badge completed if they come prepared with the following items:
Requirement #6 – Begin your family tree by listing yourself and include at least two additional generations. You may complete this requirement by using a pedigree chart or a genealogy software program.
Requirement #7 – Complete a family group record form, listing yourself and your brothers and sisters as the children. On another family group record form, show one of your parents and his or her brothers and sisters as the children. This requirement may be completed using a chart or a genealogy software program.
Requirement #4 – Obtain at least one genealogical document that supports an event that is or can be recorded on your pedigree chart or family group record. The document could be found at home or at a government office, religious organization, archive, or library.
