Clarksville Garden Club 2010 NED Fall President’ Report

We began our year watching the eagles and discussing birds and feeders. Next we had an “enlightening” meeting with a speaker presenting ideas for outdoor lightening around our homes.

Spring found us planting daffodils. (I know we were late but the Fall was too wet!) at a local nursing home where one of our former members was residing.

In April we visited nursery where we purchased plants for our homes and for the two urn shaped planters that we had installed in memory of deceased club members at the entrance to the river front park. May was a month for lunch together and a visit to another nursery and a perennial divide among members.

In June we learned about rocks and uses in the garden at the in the garden at the home of member, Jessie Lucas. We also presented a plant to our Mayor during Garden Club Week. Every year we have a carry-in-picnic with spouses and the winners of garden-of-the-month are invited as guests. We recently presented Citations to a local church and Post Office to reward their landscaping this past year.

Linda Harmon has given us great newspaper coverage with pictures and articles throughout the year. We use the internet to communicate with members monthly and more often as needed. Elizabeth phones the 3 who do not have email. This is a great time and energy saver!

The end of this month will find us enjoying lunch together followed by a trip to another nursery to listen to tips on winterizing our gardens.

Happy Gardening,

Maisie Keeser, 2009 - 2011 President

Clarksville Garden Club Presents Citation to Post Office

Clarksville Garden Club presented a Citation of Commendation to Post Master, Dennis Parson, and Jeanie Eisenhower for the beautification of the Post Office for the Sunflower Festival. The bright and hardy Sunflowers were planted in front of the Clarksville Post Office. Over the years this building has had to be evacuated with the Mississippi River inundates the area.

At present the Post Office is back in its proper location near the riverbank where it has an unobstructed view of the river. The brilliant Sunflowers this summer replaced the former plantings that were destroyed by the 2008 flood.

Left to Right: Val Concannon, Garden Club Member (GCM); Janet Church, GCM; Nancy, Citation Chairman(GCM; Dennis Parson, Post Master; Shirley Buckley, GCM; Jeanie Eisenhower, volunteer & resident of Clarksville who helped Dennis Parson with the project; Maisie Keeser, President Garden Club; Pam

Stevens, GCM.
