German Ram Cichlid

Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

The german ram is a dwarf cichlid from South America. It is considered by many to be one of the most attractive fish in the fishkeeping hobby. Maximum size is 2 inches. They do great in the community aquarium. They sometimes will fight among themselves, especially the males, so it it best to keep more females than males. Minimum tank size is 10 gallons for a mated pair. Bigger if they are not a pair, because they will fight. Do best in a densly planted aquarium. Pairs will spawn on a flat surface, or dig a nest if the substrate is fine. Prefer soft, acidic water, and are a very delicate fish that are often difficult to acclimate. It is best to drip acclimate them over a period of 90 minutes or more.
