McDaniel College Professor Emeritus Dr. Francis “Skip” Fennell, the inaugural recipient of the L. Stanley Bowlsbey Chair in Education and Graduate and Professional Studies, is an internationally renowned expert in mathematics education who developed the first graduate program for elementary mathematics teachers in Maryland.

Fennell is the recipient of mathematics education teaching, leadership, and lifetime service and achievement awards from the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.  He has dedicated his professional life since 1966 to mathematics education, with an emphasis on the elementary and middle grades, serving from 2006-2008 as president of the NCTM, the world’s largest and most influential mathematics education organization.  Read More
