Francisco Goldman and Chris Adrian to take part in theNew York Festival Neue Literatur 2012

The Curator of the Festival of New Literature, Susan Bernofsky, is delighted to have Adrian and Goldman participating in festival programs: "We were very fortunate to be able to secure these two wonderful writers for our festival.  They will enrich our panels by their participation, and I am very much looking forward to hearing them in conversation with our German-language authors Larissa Boehning, Monica Cantieni, Catalin Dorian Florescu, Inka Parei, Linda Stift and Erwin Uhrmann."

Francisco Goldman is the author of five award-winning novels and also one work of non-fiction. His novel, The Ordinary Seaman, was voted by Hungry Mind Review as one of the “Best Hundred American books of the Century”. He will take part in the panel discussion themed “Literature Between Cultures,” which will be moderated by U.S. literary critic Liesl Schillinger and taking place at McNally Jackson. Chris Adrian has written numerous short stories and three novels. He was featured in the 2010 New Yorkers 20 Under 40 Fiction Issue. This year he is a Fellow at the Cullman Center of the New York Public Library, where he is currently working on a new novel. Chris Adrian will participate in a panel on “Reinventing the Past”, moderated by Daniel Kehlmann and taking place at Powerhouse Arena.  

The Festival of New Literature, February 9th-12th, will take place for the third time at different locations throughout New York City as a joint project of the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, the Deutsches Haus at NYU, the Deutsches Haus at Columbia University, the German Book Office NY, the German Consulate General in New York, the Goethe-Institut NY and Pro Helvetia.

The authors for the Festival Neue Literatur from February 10-12, 2012 are announced!

Susan Bernofsky, acclaimed translator and curator of the Festival Neue Literatur 2012, chose six exceptional German-language authors for next year’s festivities. The 2012 participants are: Larissa Boehning (Germany), Monica Cantieni (Switzerland), Catalin Dorian Florescu (Switzerland), Maja Haderlap (Austria), Inka Parei (Germany) and Linda Stift (Austria).

For the third year, the Festival Neue Literatur will bring six of the most respected authors of the contemporary German-language literary scene to New York City. Festival Neue Literatur continues to be the premier platform for presenting the work and capabilities of its selected German-language authors. In a series of events participants will meet New York authors as well as the literary critic Liesl Schillinger and German author Daniel Kehlman for talks and discussions.

This event is a collaboration between the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, the Deutsches Haus at NYU, the Deutsches Haus at Columbia University, the German Book Office NY, the German Consulate General in New York, the Goethe-Institut NY and Pro Helvetia.
