Welcome to the home of the Ferranti Hackers
The Hackers, not to be confused with a set of Māori war dances, were formed by a small number of golf playing former Ferranti GTE employees as a way of keeping in touch, both socially and competitively, on an annual basis. With the inclusion of friends and family the society and annual event has grown in numbers and stature over the years to the extent that we started keeping records of competitions and started to hand out prizes to competition winners. A long way from the initial "a quid for the front 9, back nine and full 18 holes" agreed way back when on the first tee.
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of Life Organiser Tom Redmond, some 98 golfers have attended our annual get together since 1999 and the prize pot includes an 18 Hole Championship to 3rd place, Nearest the Pins, Longest Drive, a Par 3 competition and a "booby prize" for those one off events worth bringing to everyone attention. Add to that the morning team event with prizes to 3rd place plus Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin, its a day with plenty to play for.
All are welcome to participate as long as you respect the etiquettes of golf, are prepared to have a laugh and to take some "ribbing" on the 1st tee.
