Board of Directors

Beverly Koopman
Co-Founder & Executive Director.  Koopman is a 3-4-5 Multiage Teacher at Discovery Elementary with a B.S. from St. Cloud State University, a Master's Degree and Educational Administrative Certificate both from St. Mary's University of Minnesota. Koopman is a dedicated and vocal advocate for public education and for narrowing the achievement gap between social classes through family literacy.  Koopman is also active in other non-profit community organizations.

Linnea Logas
Co-Founder & Vice-Chair. A graduate with honors and distinction from St. Olaf College with degrees in Philosophy and Family Studies, and a concentration in Women's Studies. Linnea is currently working for Minnesota Reading Corps as the Family Literacy Member Coordinator for Bloomington Schools. Linnea is passionate about closing the achievement gap, and recognizes that getting books into the homes of children is one step to acheiving this goal.

Horace Taft 
Vice-Chair.  Horace is the owner of Buffalo Books and Coffee in Buffalo.  He is a graduate of Hamline University. Horace is the owner of Buffalo Books and Coffee which he has operated for the past fifteen years.

Francis Kazemek
Director of Research.  
Dr. Kazemek is a Professor Emeritus from St. Cloud State University. He holds an M.A. in English and a Ph.D. in Literacy Education. Dr. Kazemek is the author of books and journal articles ranging from topics on literacy, intergenerational writing and poetry. He has dedicated his life to inspiring societies to become more literate, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Kimberly L. Gleason
Executive Secretary 
Gleason is an adjunct faculty member of St. Mary's University working as a Graduate Student Advisor. She devotes time to several non-profit organizations but is especially passionate about working in areas related to the advancement of education.

Julie Kiernan
Director of Finance
Kiernan is a law firm Business Manager and Paralegal. She has a B.S. in Business from the University of MN and has been involved in business and accounting for 25 years. Kiernan is interested in literacy issues, especially for children in poverty wanting to make her contribution by working with this non-profit organization.

Jean Carlson
Director of Operations  
Carlson is the Business Office Lead at Buffalo Clinic in Buffalo, Mn. She serves on several non-profit boards of directors including: Vice-Chair for the Buffalo Food Shelf, Secretary for the Catholic Council of Women, the District 877 Scholarship Foundation and United for Youth. Carlson loves being involved with children. It was while watching the response of children at the food shelf receiving free books that she decided to become actively involved in Read to Feed the Mind.
