610P - Parent Organizations

The School Board encourages the establishment of parent-teacher organizations, including a divisionwide parent council of representatives from each school parent-teacher organization, but recognizes these types of organizations are independent and operate separately from school sponsored groups. They must be organized as legal entities, operate with their own federal identification numbers issued by the Internal Revenue Service, and be governed by their own bylaws which allow for election of officers and operational procedures. The Board endorses such organizations that advance programs to improve educational opportunities for all students consistent with state and federal law. The Board requests that parent-teacher organizations maintain a close relationship with the Board, administration, and staff, and that they consider School Board and school policies when planning activities.
