Anna Kiper has been many things in her fashion career: technical designer, forecaster, illustrator, couture designer and even professor. Throughout it all, her personal philosophy has propelled her: “Fashion is not about a ruffle and a polka dot. It’s not about a pretty bow,” says Anna. “It’s a science on one hand and a craft, a fine art, on the other.” She recalls her earliest experience in the real world of fashion. A native of Moscow, she studied there before moving to New York to attend Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). After graduating, she spent the next five years working at the top fashion forecasting service, immersed in the future trends. From there she moved to Calvin Klein as an illustrator and designer. She left to take a Senior Designer position with the German company Mondi. When the firm’s Design Director, Maggie Norris, decided to start her own couture line, Anna joined her. She’s been there for ten years. “... we work in the most creative environment imaginable,” Anna declares. They have dressed celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry for the red carpet and are often featured in the top fashion magazines. Anna’s passion for the business has even translated into mentoring young talent. She carries a full teaching schedule at both FIT and Parsons.
