FASA STATEMENT, June 8, 2020

Together – Finnish American Studies Association (FASA) statement of support for the fight against racism and discrimination

The world has been in a state of shock since 25 May 2020 when a police officer killed George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The choking, together with the centuries-long history of injustice, triggered anger and violence that were unleashed in protests around the world. As scholars of American Studies, we join others in the international academic community to express our commitment to fight against racism and discrimination, a lived reality for many, and not only in the United States. Every country has its challenges; we all need to listen, learn, and recognize injustice, then take action. Peacefully. Together.
