The Finnish American Studies Association (FASA)

WHAT IS FASA?

The Finnish American Studies Association (FASA) is a registered Finnish organization the aim of which is to encourage and promote academic study of the United States and its civilization in Finland as well as to facilitate communication between those interested in such studies. The title of the association in Finnish is Suomen Yhdysvaltain tutkimuksen seura  ry. FASA is also a member organization of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV). FASA organizes seminars and offers travel grants. In addition, our members get access to the wider European web of scholars and students in the field of American Studies.

FOR MEMBERS FASA OFFERS

Members of the Finnish American Studies Association automatically belong to the Nordic Association for American Studies (NAAS) as well as to the European Association for American Studies (EAAS).
Members of the FASA receive a scholarly publication, the biannual American Studies in Scandinavia. This interdisciplinary journal publishes articles drawing upon fields such as geography, history, linguistics, literature, political science, social anthropology, and sociology. In addition to the American Studies in Scandinavia, members receive the electronic NAAS Newsletter and American Studies in Europe. Members are furthermore eligible to attend and deliver presentations at the conferences organized by the NAAS and other EAAS member organizations.

TO JOIN FASA

To join the Finnish American Studies Association, please pay your membership fee for this year (full year memberships only) and then contact FASA President Rani-Henrik Andersson at rani-henrik.andersson[at]helsinki.fi to inform us of your current postal and email addresses.

Your membership fee is payable to FASA, and the bank account (in Finland) is:

1) Membership with subscription to the American Studies in Scandinavia at 49,00 €

2) Student (or retiree) Membership with subscription to the American Studies in Scandinavia at 42,00 €

3) Membership without journal subscription at 22,00 €

4) Student (or retiree) membership without journal subscription at 15,00 €

FASA NEWS

The 2019 NAAS Biennial Conference with the theme, MONUMENTS, to be held 25 – 27 April 2019 in Bergen, Norway. The NAAS (The Nordic Association for American Studies) conference welcomes panel and paper proposals that address monuments and the monumental in relation to American literature, history, politics, media, art and popular culture, transnational and transcultural and comparative approaches.
