Hastings National Town Crier Championships 2008
The 56th National Town Criers Championship was contested by 18 criers from across the country and was held at the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, giving colour and a lot of noise to a lovely sunny day.

The competition, held, over 2 heats, consisted of their Home Cry and one written on the subject of The Olympics was judged by 3 leading experts who made Alistair Chisholm the outright winner for the sixth time. The second and third place were very close with Peter Taunton having just 6 points, claiming second place over John Scholey coming third.

The winners were:

  • 1st Alistair Chisholm, Dorchester: 957 points
  • 2nd Peter Taunton, Stafford: 864
  • 3rd John Scholey, Tunbridge Wells: 858
  • 4th Michael Wood, Willerby: 830
The best dressed crier went to Jonathan Jones from Farnham with Maureen Taunton from Stafford receiving the best dressed attendant prize.
