The Farm to Community Alliance is using Local Dirt to buy or sell local foods online!!!
Local Dirt™ is an innovative online platform that connects buyers and sellers of locally-grown produce and animal products as well as locally-made food such as jams, baked goods, and more.
With Local Dirt™, farmers, cooperatives, and distributors can create a profile and list the produce, meat, and other goods that they have available for consumers to immediately purchase.
Unlike websites that may have out-of-date or static information, sellers directly update their profiles and inventories on Local Dirt™. As a result, customers can easily connect with sellers and accurately search for products by type, quantity, distance, and delivery method.
Local Dirt™ is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation with the aim to support sustainable farming practices, shorten the distance food travels, increase the freshness of produce available to consumers, and boost the local economy.
Many Farm to Community Alliance members are utilizing Local Dirt. Use of this system is free for any direct producer to consumer sales. For more details, please go to www.localdirt.com.
