Thanks for a great season!
Were you to the market this season? If you weren't, you're missed another great season. This midweek (Thursday) market was a great hit with everyone. The 3-7 PM  timeslot worked great for families, senior citizens, and everyone else in between. The conveniently located market, on North 1st Street in Champaign made it easy to find, but without the hassle of the congestion of the downtown. And even though the market has a small footprint, many were pleasantly surprised that they were able to find what they were looking for.

Patrons found that they didn't need to go down aisle after aisle looking for their favorite items. Patrons were also pleased that if they had a question about the market or a vendor's product, they got their questions answered with a smile and friendly voice. Due to being grown locally, and thereby extra tasty, many patrons found that not all of it will make it to the fridge. Besides produce, there were other vendors who filled the need for fresh baked goods, unique floral bouquets, quality crafts by local artisans, and award winning BBQ.

After discovering the little gem in old downtown, many made repeat visits. The number one reason - friendly neighborhood feel of the market. Families with young children found that they didn't have to worry about their kids getting run over or having to keep track of them while standing in a long line.   And even though many like the fact that they can get what they need and be on their way, many choose to enjoy that welcoming feeling that only a smaller market can offer.

But even though we're not big, we do offer the conveniences that you might with larger markets. This includes the acceptance of Link (including Double Value for many purchases), as well as Senior/WIC Farmers Market Coupons. We believe that income should not be a barrier to enjoying the market experience.  Many of our low income customers let us know that they love coming to our market because they get treated just like everyone else - with a smile and a 'thank you'.

We also have a couple of features that both surprise and delight anyone's desire for that something extra. Just north of the market area, you can tour through the North 1st Street Prosperity Garden. It's tended by youths and a coordinator from the Boys and Girls Club. And on days when it's hot, kids of all ages cool down in a water mister provided by Illinois American Water. The photo on the right says it all!

So be sure to check us out next season - Thursdays, from 3 to 7 PM. Stop by after work, bring the family to enjoy the BBQ, and don't forget your canine companion. (Yes, dogs are welcome, too!) See you on next year!
