Speeding Cars

Today you will measure the speed of cars traveling down Bancroft.

1. Measure a distance between 20 and 50 meters.
2. Have one team member stand at 0m to signal when a car crosses the line.
3. Have another team member stand at the end line timing how long it takes for the car to go from 0 to where he/she is.
4. Have another team member write down the time.

When we return to the classroom I will show you what you need to do.

1. Open Google Sheets.

2. Enter your data into a Sheet like this:
Remember to NOT put in units or letters.  Spreadsheets can only deal with numbers.

3. Use a formula to calculate speed.  [distance/time]
4. Copy the formula into all the rows of the speed column by dragging the blue square at the bottom right of the cell.

4. Use a formula to convert m/s to miles per hour.  Multiply m/s times 2.2.
We will do more to this tomorrow.
