1. Open a Google Doc and name it Forces and Motion.

2. Go here and start with Net Force.

  • Create two balanced forces (same size and number of people) on each side of the cart. Turn on "Sum of Forces" and "Values." Press the Go button to see what happens.
  • Take a screenshot with command-shift-4 (make your screen smaller so the shot isn't so big). and insert it in the document.
  • Explain the concept of balanced forces in at least one sentence. Be sure to refer to the force measurements and the sum of the forces.
  • Create unbalanced forces on each side of the cart. Press the Go button to see what happens.
  • Take a screenshot with command-shift-4 (make your screen smaller so the shot isn't so big). and insert it in the document.
  • Explain the concept of unbalanced forces in at least one sentence. Be sure to refer to the force measurements and the sum of the forces.
3. Now click on the Motion box at the bottom of the page. Turn on Values, Masses, and Speed

  • Apply a 50 N force by clicking the arrow once. Screenshot this, post it in your document and explain what happens to the speed as time passes. Also, explain how this shows Newton's Second Law. Be sure you use the words "mass, force, and acceleration" correctly.
  • Make the applied force Zero and explain what happens to the cart with zero force on it. Explain this in terms of Newton's First Law.

4. Go to Friction. Turn on all the things to see like Forces, sum of Forces, everything.

  • Click the arrow once to add 50N of force to the crate. Screenshot this and explain what happens and why. Be sure to write about the forces, the sum of the forces, and the acceleration. Which law is best for understanding this and why?
  • Increase the force until the crate starts moving. Screenshot it and explain what is happening using the terms Applied force, frictional force, and sum of forces. What is happening to the speed and which law best explains what is happening.
  • Decrease the applied force to zero and screenshot what happens to the crate before it stops. Explain this motion in terms of the second law, the sum of the forces, and the acceleration that happens.

5. Now go to Acceleration and turn on all the things to look at.

  • Exchange the crate for the water bucket. Increase the applied force until the bucket starts moving and screenshot this. Explain what happens.
  • Wait until the speed maxes out and the pusher falls and then screenshot what happens to the bucket. Explain.

6. Share your document with tonyfarley@mac.com and Save your screenshots because you will be using them for a comic tomorrow.
