Pretzel Bowls

What you need:

    • 2 cups warm water
    • 1 1/2 Tbsp. active dry yeast
    • 6 Tbsp. brown sugar
    • 4 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
    • 5 to 6 cups all purpose flour
    • 2 tsp. salt
    • 1/3 cup baking soda
    • 3 cups warm water
    • Coarse kosher salt
    • 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted

Directions:

    1. Stir yeast into warm water and let activate, taking about 3 minutes. Pour into a mixing bowl or large bowl.
    2. Add 4 Tbsp. melted butter and sugar.
    3. Then start adding the flour 1 cup at a time. The dough should be sticky, but still manageable.
    4. Add 2 tsp. salt. Knead for 10 minutes.
    5. Place in a greased bowl and cover. Let dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
    6. Preheat oven to 500 degrees.
    7. Punch dough down and divide dough into 6 separate pieces.
    8. Form each one into a tight ball. The tighter you can get it, the better. It is not going to hurt the dough at all! Pinch the bottom and seal it off by twisting it on your counter.
    9. In a wide bowl, stir baking soda into water.
    10. Dip each ball into the water, then place on a greased baking sheet.
    11. With a serrated knife, place a slit into the top and then sprinkle the tops of each with coarse salt.
    12. Bake for 2 minutes in the preheated 500 degree oven.
    13. Then reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake for 9 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
    14. Immediately upon removing from oven and brush with melted butter.
    15. Cut a circle of bread out of the bowl and ladle soup into the pretzel bowl. Serve.
