The Family of James Wyper and Janet Muir

IV.  James Wyper was born 21 October 1836 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 23 February 1910 at The Cross, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  James married Janet Muir, daughter of Andrew Muir and Ann Porteous, in Kirkmuirhall, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 26 December 1856.  Janet was born about 1836 and died 17 June 1902 at The Cross, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  James became the first stationmaster of the railway in Stonehouse about 1862-64 and served as such for forty years.  A long-time Mason, James joined Lodge "Union" No. 244 and was a member for thirty-six years, serving eighteen years in the chair and missed only the final St. John's Day celebration of his life.  James was also a member and office-holder of the Provincial Grand Lodge.  James and Janet had twelve children:  Anne Porteous, Elizabeth, Agnes, Agnes, Janet, Mary, Jane, Margaret, Alexander, Isabella Chalmers, Margaret Jane and Lillias Porteous.  

i.  Annie Porteous Wyper was born 10 April 1857 in Dalserf, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died in August of 1924 in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand and interred 14 August 1924 in the Eastern Cemetery in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand.  Annie married John Henderson 14 July 1882 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  John Henderson and Annie immigrated to New Zealand before October 1883.  John had previously worked for a railway in India as an engine driver and in New Zealand was employed as a fireman on the rail line. One the evening of 23 August 1883 while working John was struck by shotgun pellets fired from the cutting bank, near Wairuna, as the train was passing.  The train was reversed to the town of Clinton, about ten miles, where he was pronounced dead.  An inquest found three youths to have been involved and two were later indicted on charges of manslaughter.  John Henderson was interred 25 August 1883 in the Easter Cemetery, Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand.  Annie Porteous Wyper Henderson married William Rennie on 31 March 1885 in New Zealand.  William Rennie was born about 1853 in Rosshire, Scotland and died in April 1939 in Invercargill, Southland New Zealand and was interred on 13 April 1939 in the Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand.  Annie and William appear to have had no children as implied in this document received from Donald Cochrane of Dunedin, New Zealand.

ii.  Elizabeth Wyper was born 19 July 1858 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 26 December 1939 in Airbles House, Motherwell, Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Elizabeth married first on 12 July 1878 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland:  James Collins (b. 05 June 1853, Portpatrick, Wigtownshire, Scotland - d. abt 1886-1890, son of Hugh Collins and Mary Cachirie.) Elizabeth and James Collins had four children:  Hugh, Janet Muir, James Wyper and William.  Elizabeth married second on 27 January 1891 at 4 Minerva Street, Anderston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland:  James Miller (b. 10 October 1855, Graitney, Dumfriesshire, Scotland - d. 18 December 1897 in Kelvin, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, son of Matthew Miller and Mary Bell.)  Elizabeth and James Miller had two children:  Mathew and Alexander Wyper.  Elizabeth married third on 27 April 1908 in Anderston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland:  John Paul (b. 29 April 1848, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland - d. 30 January 1931, Motherwell Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Scotland, son of Thomas Paul and Elizabeth Miller.) 

iii. Agnes Wyper was born 11 May 1860 in Douglas, Lanarkshire Scotland and died 21 December 1861 in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  

iv.  Agnes Wyper was born 18 May 1862 in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 16 February 1939 in 85 Calder Street, Motherwell, Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Agnes married 17 February 1888 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland to James Weir, son of Robert Weir and Mary Stewart.  James Weir was born 01 January 1858 in Johnstone Nether, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 31 December 1913 in 69 Calder Street, Motherwell, Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Agnes and James had six children:  Robert, Janet Muir, Alexander Wyper, Mary Stewart, Annie Wyper and John Edmund Morton.  

v.  Janet Wyper was born 31 March 1864 in 14 Gayfield Street, Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 08 November 1935 at 190 Gourlay Street, Possil Park, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Janet married Mitchell Edwards 26 November 1885 at 52 Nile Street, Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Mitchell Edwards was born about 1857 in Ireland, son of Mark Edwards and Elizabeth Armstrong, and died 14 October 1931 at 190 Gourlay Street, Possil Park, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Janet and Mitchell had the following children:  Jessie Wyper, Elizabeth Armstrong, James Wyper, Robert, Annie Porteous Rennie, Mary Agnes Wyper, Lilias Porteous, Isabella Chalmers and William James Armstrong.  

vi.  Mary Wyper was born 17 March 1866 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 15 May 1917 in Dennistoun, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Mary married 23 November 1888 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Robert Weir, son of Robert Weir and Mary Stewart and brother to James Weir husband of her sister, Agnes.  Robert Weir was born 14 January, 1866,  Windmill Hill, Dalziel, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 26 Feb 1924 in Dennistoun, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Mary and Robert had six children:  Robert, James Wyper, John Stewart, Andrew Parker Muir, Gavin and Elizabeth Findlay Wyper.  

vii.  Jane Wyper was born 05 January 1868 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 19 Jun 1874 of scarlet fever in Lawrie Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  

viii.  Margaret Wyper was born 08 January 1870 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 30 June 1874 of scarlet fever in Lawrie Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  

ix.  Alexander Wyper was born 24 October 1871 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 01 Kuly 1953 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Alexander married Mary Walker Baxter on 14 June 1899 in St. Rollox, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Mary Walker Baxter was born 12 august 1873, daughter of James Baxter and Grace Biggar, and died 01 December 1950 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  

x.  Isabella Chalmers Wyper was born 01 January 1874 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 31 May 1948 at 59 King Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Isabella married Robert Burns Curr on 23 July 1913 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Robert Burns Curr was born 21 December 1870 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland, son of James Curr and Janet "Jessie" Hamilton, and died 03 December 1947 at 59 King Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Isabella and Robert had one child: James (b.06 April 1916 Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland, d. 07 May 1995 Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland.

xi.  Margaret Jane "Maggie Jane" Wyper was born 15 April 1876 in Lawrie Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 10 November 1934 in Busby, Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Maggie married John Edmund Morton on 22 February 1899 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  John Edmund Morton was born, son of Robert Morton and Helen Edmond, 16 July 1853 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 28 November 1935 at Dunara, Busby, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Maggie and John ad a daughter: Janet Muir Wyper Morton, born 24 March 1901 in Cathcart, Renfrewshire, Scotland.  


xii.  Lillias Porteous Wyper was born 14 August 1878 in Lawrie Street, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Lillias married William Cameron on 14 July 1909 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  It is believed that they immigrated to Canada.
