What is it?

Marriages are points where familial boundaries are crossed; two families become one.  Acquaintance without marriage is what I call "boundary-bumping".  Being in the same place at the same time is "boundary-glancing".

Yeah, I'm being a little cute about it but I don't know how else to describe the phenomena I'm naming "Familial Boundary-Bumping".

It seemed to me inevitable that the Moulton and Harris families would have known of each other given their co-residence in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois and their connections with University of Chicago and Northwestern University.  So, I started to pay a little more attention to try to spot just such an acquaintance.

Between this part of the Social History 101 website and the Social History 101 blog, I'll be sharing those points of contact and those points where two ships may very well have passed in the night.
