‘Short’ wears shorts for hunger awareness

UPS Driver Jason Short of International Falls MN rose awareness of the importance in donating to Falls Hunger Coalition’s Food Shelf, by challenging his community. Jason wore shorts on his deliveries despite the rain, snow and chilling temperatures that the northland brings this time of year. Donations were received by people near and far in efforts to “Dress Jason” and support FHC. The challenge began on October 6th with a goal of $1,000, an overwhelming and rapid response had Jason increasing his goal to $1,500 after just 4 days! Once that goal was reached, he increased the goal again to $2,000 OR until the snow flies. As of November 7th, Jason had raised $3,885, snow begun to fly and temperatures were reaching below 30 degrees. “Short” still wore his shorts despite these factors and continued until November 11th when the donations reached $5,196. Short may be back in his pants, but that has not stop donations from being received. The most recent donation was received on December 30th, bringing the total to $7,192! Falls Hunger Coalition has gained an abundance of new donors as a result of a viral social media and local news presence. Staff, Board, Volunteers, Donors and Clients of Falls Hunger Coalition are extremely grateful and excited about this idea and the community’s response to such a unique fundraiser. Thank you to Jason and all who have supported this event!

CROP Hunger Walk

Sunday September 14th

Forty-two walkers accepted the CROP Hunger Walk challenge and walked 6 miles for Hunger Awareness on Sunday September 14th. Awareness was not the only thing raised, walkers collected funds from sponsors totaling $4,345.65. The walk started at Smokey Bear Park with a kick-off chant, walkers made their way to the Ranier Community Building, where snacks and beverages were served by FHC and back to Smokey Bear Park. Rain had showered the walkers for two consecutive years and the forecast called for rain again this year. The skies cleared up at 2:00pm as the walk began, providing beautiful weather for the walkers and the clouds returned right at the very end of the walk to shower the walkers for the third year in a row. If you would like to take part in the 2015 CROP Hunger Walk, please contact Brittany Rognerud with FHC for more information and stay tuned to our website and newsletters for updates on the 2015 walk.
