Fallbrook is one of six clubs in the North County participating:
Each Club involved
will do 2 months in a row. A schedule is provided to each of you and
you can switch if necessary in case of an emergency. Please keep me
informed of any changes.
At the most, there
would be 30 Wounded Warriors in the Barracks, and not all of the
rooms are occupied. The plan is to bring 15/16 vases each time.
On each visit, you
will collect the empty vases from the previous month. During your
first month, the vases you pick up are known as the traveling vases.
The message will read from “…North County Garden Clubs, Palomar
District”. You will use these for your second visit.
On the first visit,
the vases that you bring with you should read from “Carlsbad
Club”. You’ll need to make up the cards ahead of time. See
photo. And David suggests laminating them, so that they can be used
again. I used a business card and laminating paper from Staples.
So each club should
minimally own 1 set of 15 vases, ribbon and a set of cards. The
vases are purchased in sets of 12, although they can be purchased in
David advised us to
drape the ribbon loosely enough that you can lift it off when you
clean the vases. Ribbon can also be purchased at the Floral Supply
Store in Carlsbad. I made a contact there…the Manager has a son
who had just come home from the War unharmed. He offered us the
goods at cost + the taxes. You can explain your connection to P4P
and you should be able to work it out.
We added floral
preservative to the water; if you use the small envelope, you only
need ½ per vase. Ultimately buying it in bulk rather than in those
envelopes will be cheaper.
Geri, President of
the San Dieguito GC decorated a basket and filled it with fresh
fruit. That basket has now become a “traveling basket” and we
can all use it for the second month or both…that is your choice.
The flowers have
been provided for free from Dos Gringos, 3260 Corporate View
Dr.,Vista. Each GC will pick them up on a Thursday each month.
Working around “special floral days”, i.e. Valentine’s Day),
try to plan on the 3rd week. This also accommodates the
Balboa Group who need a lot more flowers than we do. The practice is
to call (800-511-8122 or 760-477-7999) or send an email to
on the Wednesday of the week when you want to deliver them to
determine if they have sufficient “dumpage” available, we can
have those for free and arrange pickup. If there is insufficient
dumpage, you can then order them through Dos Gringos @$5 a “bunch”
($80 at most) and pick them up, or put it off for a week and try
again, OR get flowers from an alternate source.
You should also
contact Jennifer Kern, Advocate Community Liaison Officer, either at
760-815-6194 or Jennifer.email@example.com
to tell her the date and approximate time that you will be arriving.
(she gets the 16th vase, if there are enough flowers)
You will be given a main flower,
greens and a filler flower. So you don’t know the exact flowers
that you will be getting, but usually sunflowers will be part of the
mix. If you have 5 gallon buckets, you can trade them out, or else
they will simply stack them in your car. There may be some paperwork
to fill out. Put in water ASAP.
Once you know what flowers and how
many, you will have to come up with a design. It is helpful for
someone in the group to create a design, and then give your helpers
the exact # of flowers for each vase pre-cut to save time and
effort. If it would be helpful, you and your supplies and come and
use my carport for your arranging area. Please call first to arrange
After arranging the flowers,
please deliver them that same day.
