          2:00 p.m. - Program: “Summer Vegetable Gardening” - Roy Wilburn. Roy is the Director of Horticulture for Sunshine Care Homes, and his knowledge of edible organic gardening is unmatched. His career started as grower/manager for Herbthyme Farms in Oceanside where he oversaw the growing of many types of herbs, both conventional and organic. In this session, he will explain how to raise delicious, wallet- and eco-friendly vegetables.

         2:00 p.m. - Program: “Fabulous Geraniums” - Jim Zemcik.  In honor of the club’s 85th birthday, Jim will discuss the club’s flower - the geranium. A horticulturist and propagator, Jim has developed two new varieties in recent years...the Anna Gunn Marston geranium, a tribute to the wife of George Marston, prominent San Diego merchant and philanthropist, and the Balboa Park geranium, in preparation for the Park’s centennial. Originally a banker, he got started with geraniums in landscaping his home 40 years ago because they needed little water. He eventually focused on the breeding side. His plants can only be purchased at the Marston House gift shop or at special events and all profits go to charities.

           2:00 p.m. - Program: “Natives with Greg Rubin” Local favorite and owner of California’s Own Native Landscape Design, Greg will focus on using local plants to add color to the garden. After a successful career in engineering, he returned to his early interest in landscaping and began to provide service to friends and neighbors. His company has designed over 600 native landscapes in San Diego County and has been featured in magazines such as Sunset, San Diego Home & Garden and California Gardner.

          2:00 p.m. - Program. “Growing Gorgeous Roses” - Bob Martin, Vice President of the American Rose Society, will share his tips on growing and maintaining prize winning roses. Bob has been a member of ARS for over 33 years,    serving in many capacities and the local, district and national level. He has been recognized with the Bronze Honor        Medal by the Pasadena, Los Angeles and San Diego Rose Societies. He will serve as ARS Vice President for three  years and then become President of the organization.
