Lorenzo Santillan

Lorenzo's DREAM

Lorenzo Santillan was part of the four man team that designed and built an ROV to enter in the Marine Advanced Technology Centers ROV Championships in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004. The Falcon Robotics Team ended up beating all the schools there and they were entered in the university category where MIT finished 2nd! Their win opened the doors for future Falcons to accomplish other great robotics feats including winning the prestigious Chairman's Award at FIRST Robotics in 2008 and three consecutive FRIST Robotics Regional Championships, 2011,12,13. Many kids have gone on to college and become engineers since the four boys from the barrio announced to the world that we are here and you are going to pay attention to us. Lorenzo went on to college, despite being undocumented and is currently a chef in downtown Phoenix. He hopes to open his own catering business or restaurant one day. Lorenzo is currently a deferred action recipient and is hoping that the DREAM Act will one day pass so that he can work his way through residency and eventually become a citizen of the United States. Lorenzo exemplifies the drive and determination to chart your own destiny through education and the Falcon Robotics Team of 2014 is naming this year's robot after him.
Lorenzo is also a member of the DREAM Act Coalition
advocating for passage of the DREAM Act
