Brian & Ruthie Shaver's Guide to Various Community,Educational & Faith Based Service & Learning Resources

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ubi Caritas et Amor,
 Deus ibi est.
Where Charity and Love are,
 God is there.
In striving to love God wholly,
 with heart soul & mind,
 we hear His call
  to service.
Let us pray for
 the courage to answer,
asking Him to guide our charity with  justice.
Our Current Events:
2009
We are happy to be hosting a wonderful AFS student from Italy this year, Cecilia.  She has been a bright spot in our lives and our little 15 month old, Genevieve, is in love with her.  Beyond that, Ruthie will be going to Iowa this summer, through her work with Habitat, to assist with rebuilding efforts after the flooding they experienced last year.  We also have been involved with Angel Food Ministries, as of late.  A great non-profit that helps everyone, regardless of income.
Shaver projects Summer 2008:
Brian helped St. Ursula students rehab homes on a Catholic Heart Work Camp trip to Nashville, TN.
Ruthie worked at and helped with the Habitat Carter Work Project in Biloxi, MS for the 2nd year in a row.
Summer 2007:
Ruthie planned and Brian led a Habitat Global Village trip to Mozambique. The team built homes for orphans, traveled on safari and enjoyed the large prawns of the Indian Ocean.(Ruthie was to go on this trip also, but found a stowaway in her belly.)
Ruthie built homes with Habitat in the Gulf with a Blitz Build through her work with the National Service Program. You can learn more about how you or your group can volunteer through the below link.
The Newfs of the Shaver household are growing big and getting more well behaved everyday.  They love to swim and are not pulling on leashes on walks anymore.  Yeah!
 These dogs have the natural instinct to rescue people and animals from water.  One dog alone was reported to have save 63 men after a shipwreck.  One famous save by a Newf was of the great French general Napoleon Bonaparte who fell overboard a ship and was saved by a dog named Boatswain in 1814.
In the Daily Mix:
Faith Life: Brian and I teach 7th grade religous education on Sundays.  We also enjoy attending Mass and participating in our parishes' Social Justice and Peace group. Some of our J&P goings on:
Bread for The World - Seeking Justice, Ending Hunger
The Earth Charter - a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, peaceful and sustainable global society
For Fun: We enjoy our daugher, Genevieve and going out and about with our Newfs a lot.  Sometimes we travel with them, as well as hike at the nearby parks, where they can take a much loved dip. We also like camping and canoeing, rollerblading, visiting friends and family, and watching fav shows when we can - Office, Survivor, Private Practice, and NCIS are some of the ones we like....  Found it takes half the time, if we catch them on the web.
Brian and Ruthie live in Northern Ohio and are in the process of fixing up a fixer upper, which is getting more fixed up by the day!  The Shavers live near Maumee Bay State Park, which is a beautiful place to visit.
