Word from our President

Want to know what is going on in your neighborhood? Want to meet civic minded neighbors? See a neighbor who needs help? Is it time for you to be a part of something bigger?

The Fairmount Park Civic League is a group of dedicated residents, neighbors, churches and businesses who have banned together to make the Fairmount Park neighborhood a wonderful place to raise a family. We are the second largest Civic League in the City of Norfolk and one of the most active. Our nonprofit Civic League has faithfully represented nine distinct neighborhoods, including  Belmont Place, Fairmount Park, Shoop Park, Lafayette Manor,  Lafayette Terrace,  Fairmount Manor, Willard Park, Kent Park, and Bell Farms since 1980. The League represents more than 2,300 homes as well as numerous businesses, including a major grocery chain store, gas stations and locally owned restaurants, shops, and numerous neighborhood churches. The neighborhood is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse  in the City of Norfolk, and since 2004 it has been undergoing massive revitalization.

Residents and visitors come to enjoy our tree lined streets and variety of architectural house styles including Arts and Craft period bungalows, Victorian farmhouses, and American Four Squares, to name a few. They also come to enjoy our recently redesigned Shoop Park. But more importantly, people choose to live here because, within a large city, the neighborhood provides a real sense of place and community where people know and look after one another. Our residents  welcome the proximity to downtown, the retail corridors of 21st Street and Military Highway, the bases, and the interstates, all within a five minute or less drive. As a neighborhood undergoing revitalization, the area boasts grants and loans for homeowners to renovate their historic homes and to improve their curb appeal while enjoying the benefits of upgraded streets, more tree plantings, a new park filled with exciting recreational amenities,  and a growing sense of pride and stewardship for the community. Fairmount Park is truly undergoing a massive rebirth.

We are committed to making a difference in our neighborhood and always welcome new members and new residents to be part of the success of our community.  The Fairmount Park Civic League is respected by our peers, heard by our elected officials, and felt by our neighbors. Come and Join us! When you are a part of the Fairmount Park Civic League, you have good citizens and neighbors on your side.

President, Fairmount Park Civic League
