This project was approved May 4, 2011 and the first Site Committee meeting was held June 6, 2011, the outcome of which will be design specifics by March or April 2012.
Note: See below for a PDF of the April 12 presentation to the district design subcomittee.
In 2010, voter approval of Measure D finally created funding for reconstruction of Fairmont Elementary. Construction will not begin until the bonds are sold (a debt waiver limit was approved by the State Board of Education in early 2011), but the design and planning process is underway. Design sub-committee approval of the Master Plan on April 12, means that the project can now move forward to construction plans. Estimates for completion range from as early as 2014 to as late as 2017. The new school buildings will occupy roughly the same positions as the current school, which complicates construction. Furthermore, it is expected that students will remain on the current Fairmont campus, with temporary buildings placed on the existing play field.
