Lori Fabian, President, Fabian Consulting, Inc. has had over thirty years of experience working with non-profit organizations. An independent consultant since 1994, Ms. Fabian moved her practice to central New Jersey from Greater New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2001. A skilled writer, presenter, program evaluator, and project manager, her experience includes organizations involved in health and behavioral health, human services, education, religion, the arts, science and nature, and strengthening the nonprofit sector.
A professional grants manager, writer and counselor since 1990, Ms. Fabian has helped nonprofit organizations raise over $62 million in foundation, corporate, and government support. She has also provided grants research, training, and counsel to hundreds of agencies since that time. A specialist in outcome measurement and program evaluation since 1997, she has spearheaded external evaluation efforts for a wide variety of federal, state, and major foundation-funded programs and projects in Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York. She was principal investigator for a county-wide assessment of food insecurity in Passaic County in 2012, and for a national evaluation of a long-standing program for the Foundation Center in 2005.
A frequent provider of training and technical assistance in both grantsmanship and program evaluation, Ms. Fabian was the inaugural recipient of the New Jersey/New York Girl Scout Training Cluster’s annual Compass Award for Excellence and Leadership in Learning Facilitation.
Ms. Fabian utilizes the services of a team of independent contractors as appropriate to the needs of her individual clients. Her team, most of whom hold advanced or terminal degrees, includes specialists in technical and scientific writing and editing, grant writing, statistics, focus group research, information technology, survey development, board development, fundraising, and strategic planning.

Alison Aucoin received her master’s degree in public health from Tulane University in 1997. She has over twelve years of experience in grantwriting, program monitoring and evaluation, prospect research, and database development and management. Alison’s areas of special interest include social and health services for children, women’s health issues, HIV/AIDS prevention and services, and programs serving orphaned children in developing countries.
As Information Strategy and IT Specialist, Steve helps nonprofits define and apply practical, right-sized technology solutions that match their organization and culture. He is a strong advocate for holistic IT – an approach that harmonizes technology with the client’s people, processes and data in order to minimize risk and deliver maximum value. His 25 years of experience in consulting and corporate IT management have given him strong expertise in information strategy, business requirements, software selection, reporting systems, performance indicators, and business intelligence and analytics – key technology components for measuring and monitoring nonprofit outcomes. Most recently before becoming an independent consultant, he was a senior manager for Deloitte Consulting in their Information Management practice. Steve has a BS in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and an MBA in Computer Applications and Information Systems from NYU.
Karma Crawford has over 15 years experience as a grants development specialist working with health and human service non-profit organizations to develop competitive grant applications for federal, state, local and foundation funding. Her areas of expertise include program design, budget development, outcome measurement and proposal development. As an independent consultant for nearly 10 years, she has helped secure funds to open health clinics in rural Texas and Alabama, re-build housing stock in post-Katrina New Orleans and establish substance abuse, mental health, workforce development, environmental and early childhood education programs for low-income populations in New Jersey. Prior to establishing her consulting business, she served as a grant administrator developing local requests for proposals, awarding grant funds and monitoring non-profit performance in program implementation. Ms. Crawford earned a Master of Science in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 1994.
Anthony J. Funari, Ph.D. in English Literature, has been working in the education field since 2001. After earning his BA from the University of Pittsburgh and his MA from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Funari began his teaching career in the NYC public schools system. Having been awarded a University Fellowship for his doctoral studies at Lehigh University, he completed his Ph.D. in 2010. His work garnered the 2010 Outstanding Dissertation Award and was published by Palgrave Macmillan as his first book in 2011. Dr. Funari brings with him over a decade of experience studying and teaching composition/ rhetorical theory and professional communications. He currently teaches introductory writing and literature courses at Johnson County Community College and calls Kansas City, KS home.
Elizabeth Gittman, Ph. D., Research Associate, holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Research and Evaluation and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Hofstra University. Dr. Gittman brings to this project many years of experience as a researcher and evaluator for organizations such as the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) of Nassau County, NY; the Shalom Task Force; Nassau Community College; Community Service Society of New York; High Risk Youth Special Review Committee of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, US Dept. of Health and Human Services; Long Beach City School District and District 28 Queens. As Associate Professor of Education at the New York Institute of Technology, Dr. Gittman taught graduate and undergraduate courses in education foundations, research, thesis preparation, educational psychology, student teaching seminar and internship supervision. Throughout her distinguished career, she has developed and executed research designs and program evaluations; developed curricula; administered and overseen data collection, analysis, and interpretation; written grant applications, and prepared and presented evaluation reports and recommendations.

Dale Jacquish has nearly thirty years of experience working in the area of information technology within both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. He has extensive experience managing and executing federal contracts and developing new Access databases. Most recently, he developed a large integrated spreadsheet reporting process used by United Way. This process provided for the automatic summarization of reported data from approximately 30 agencies. He developed business requirements as well as logical and physical designs for new Access databases to support client management and grant management for Urban Renewal Corporation, the largest provider of services to the homeless in Newark, New Jersey. A custom data feed was designed to support HUD requirements and a custom database was designed to support SAMHSA requirements. Before becoming an independent consultant, he was responsible for redesigning and managing a large competitively operated Market Research organization serving all of AT&T. The redesign included the development of marketing and sales strategies, vendor consolidation and negotiation of nine million dollars in vendor contracts, development of Oracle databases and the integration of market research interviewing software with those databases, and the design and installation of a LAN and a PC standard operating environment. He is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Mark Jurcisin, Research Associate, brings almost twenty years of research experience to Fabian Consulting, Inc. He works to match charitable organizations to relevant funders via extensive online research of myriad sources, and provides all available application criteria and analytical data in database form for proper evaluation as regards funding potential. Additionally, he provides supplementary grantwriting support. Also an active composer and professor of music, Dr. Jurcisin holds degrees in Music Composition from the University of North Texas (B. Mus.), Montclair State University (M. A.), and Temple University (D. M. A.). He is currently Associate Professor and Artist Teacher of Music Composition and Theory at Mercer County Community College, and has also held positions on the faculties of New York University, Bergen County College, and The College of New Jersey. While on the faculty of The College of New Jersey, he formulated and taught graduate courses in Research Theory and Criticism.
Joan Kaspin, Ph.D, Statistician and Evaluation Materials Specialist, works with businesses and non-profit organizations in the areas of outcome evaluation, grant proposals, human resources, and financial record keeping. She has designed and executed statistical analysis of non-profit programs, including online and paper surveys. In addition, Dr. Kaspin has designed and facilitated focus groups as part of organizational change and strategic planning initiatives. She has summarized the results in final reports thereby enabling senior management to direct resources for improved programs, increased revenue, employee retention and client satisfaction. Dr. Kaspin earned a BS in Accounting, MBA and PhD in Human Resources, all from Syracuse University, New York. Prior to founding her consulting business (Kaspin Associates), Dr. Kaspin taught human resources management and organizational behavior courses at Syracuse University, State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica, and Georgian Court College. In addition, she is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
With over 16 years of experience in human services consulting, non-profit management, business ownership, and state/county/municipal governments, Rafael has the ability to bridge gaps and create common languages for the improved coordination between government and the private sector. A graduate of City University of New York, and a consulting professional whose specializes in assisting businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, and government with all aspects of strategic planning and implementation, he is very adept at business/social enterprise development; and, in providing the administrative support related to the implementation and startup of special projects. He has also helped develop various grant management mechanisms within government and non-profits and is well-versed in Request for Proposals; Request for Qualifications; and Open/Competitive bidding processes—both as the author of these documents and as a respondent for clients.

Michael Polson has been working in development since 2002 and has been with Fabian Consulting, Inc since 2008. With a BA from Wesleyan University in English and as a current PhD student at City University of New York, Michael has a penchant for grantwriting, project design, and research. He has substantial experience working with organizations ranging from small, local, social justice organizations to large, regional and national service providers covering issues and areas of need that include reproductive health, subsidized housing, healthcare advocacy, immigrant assistance, and many others. Michael has been trained at the Foundation Center in prospect research and grantwriting and has performed duties ranging from grant tracking and reporting to strategic planning. In addition to consulting, Michael has also worked within nonprofits as a Program Coordinator, Administrative Assistant and Development Associate. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
