The choir made a triumphant and dramatic entry into the church waving palms, much to the surprise of traditional choir styles. A simultaneous audiovisual presentation (with scenes from the movie 'Passion of Christ' by Mel Gibson) to match the different hymns was admirably synchronised. The voices of the youthful and dynamic choir blended mellifluously to produce great music. The Lenten spirits of the listeners were truly revived.
The narrator, Mary Anne, wonderfully explained the meaning of their own compositions and hymnal songs. Mr Aloysius Machado, the conductor, with his phenomenal tenor voice, sang some moving solos, which echoed deeply, adding melody to stir the soul. It is a rare opportunity when one gets to hear the conductor singing, besides doing a masterful job of conducting his choir. Young Sam on the keyboard played harmonious music to the delight of the fully packed congregation.
It was a very spiritually enriching experience to listen to the Sahar Beacons, and they need to be applauded for their tremendous efforts in putting up a magnificent performance. God bless them all.
The event started with a liturgical bhajan performed by one of the oldest students at DKK - Mrs Kokila - who played the tabla and was joined on the keyboard by Mr Francis and Ms Zenia on the manjira. Sr Amita added her soulful vocals to the soothing piece. This was followed by a graceful dance performance by the dance students, offering a floral tribute to our Creator through their dance Pushpanjali.
However, the evening really belonged to the students of music and dance, who either individually or in a group, performed music pieces on the piano, ranging from songs like Ode to Joy, My Bonnie, Home on the Range, to the romantic Romance De Amore, to the classic La Cucaracha. A few students also performed songs like Ash Grove, El Condor Pasa. Other beautiful melodies performed were Oh Suzanna ending with the divine How Great Thou Art. A spellbinding performance was by Brandan Annes who sang the Indian raga Rag Bhupali, while he played the harmonium.
The Chief Guest, Fr Gregory Arockia, SVD from Atma Darshan, Andheri and the Guest of Honour, Sr Blanche Rodrigues fc, Principal of St Joseph High School, Bandra, were left speechless with this showcase of talent.
