All participants are strongly advised to bring laptops to the Summer School, as you will need them for the groupwork. Please make sure that you have an appropriate power supply (voltage and plugpoint) adaptors for your equipment. You will have a wireless internet access at the Philips Hi Tech Campus and hotels.

Please let us know as soon as possible should you be unable to bring your own laptop, so that we can make arrangements accordingly.

What is the voltage in the Netherlands and Belgium?

The voltage is 220 Volts.

What kinds of clothes should I bring with me? Should I bring something formal?

Because the Summer School will be taking place in late summer/ early autumn, it is advisable to bring trousers and a jacket since average temperatures at this time reach around 17 degrees during the day and 5-8 degrees at night. It rains quite often in the Netherlands, so bring an umbrella. Because there will be a formal farewell dinner, bringing something nice would also be advised.

Should I bring a credit card and/or cash?

You are strongly advised to have cash in a local currency for your private expenses and a credit card in case of an emergency.

Will I have some free time while in Eindhoven for sightseeing/shopping etc.?

The schedule of the summer school is quite full, however we do hope you have some time to enjoy the sights and sounds of Netherlands and Belgium.

Am I expected to do some preparatory reading before the Summer School?

Yes. We will be uploading some recommended reading which will be useful and interesting to read. These will help you to prepare for some of the expert presentations and group work.

Will I receive a certificate of participation in the Summer School?

Yes, you will be granted a certificate of completion.

Miscellaneous

Can I receive travel grant in cash?

No, you will receive your travel grant only via bank transfer.

The currency in the Netherlands is Euro (€).

What is the currency in Belgium?

The currency in Belgium is Euro(€).

Where can I exchange my money?

It is possible to exchange money at the airport. However, usually rather bad exchange rates apply. Thus we would recommend that you discuss with your private bank whether it is better to purchase Euros in your home country or in the Netherlands/ Belgium.

Will there be any other expenses I should be prepared for?

Most expenses for travel, accommodation and meals are already covered by the summer school. However, for the meals and drinks not paid by the summer school, and other basic expenses of a personal nature, we think approximately €25 per day should be sufficient. Naturally this is only a thumb rule figure, and can vary a lot based on your lifestyle.

What number do I call in case of an emergency?

The organisation committee will be accessible on a local mobile number, so you can contact us anytime in case of emergency. We will provide you with the number in due time.

Because I am transferring the participation fee to Citibank in the UK, should the payment be made in Euros or British Pounds?

Even though Citibank is located in London, the account is in Euros.
