Join us for the first folding challenge of 2014, and the first in over a year! Please be sure to take a look at the rules, as they are a bit different from the TZC's of before. This is the first year that crunching will be included and the creation of teams with divisions.
Dates:
The challenge will run from April 20th, 2014 to April 30th 2014. Sign ups will close at 12 Noon EDT (9AM PDT) on April 19th. Late entrants will need to PM to request to be placed in the contest. Once the stats forms are finalized, no additional entrants will be accepted.
Rules:
Teams are distributed as before. When signing up, you will choose which timezone you reside in or would like to compete for. Contestants in the "International" pool will be distributed among other teams in a balancing manner. However, this TZC has a twist, the inclusion of divisions. You may choose 1 folding division and both of the crunching divisions. You will work in these divisions for the entirety of the challenge. Please have folded/crunched at least one work unit in the division you are in before the start, so we can find you for stat collection. The divisions are explained below.
Divisions:
- CPU/GPU Folding: This is standard folding for the majority of folders. Choose this option if you intend to fold on any hardware. Only BigAdv folders will be placed in another division.
- BigAdv Folding: All folders who fold on bigadv servers will need to choose this division. This allows bigadv to not dominate the entire contest. Bigadv folders may still use GPU/CPU folding to supplement their stats.
- CPU Crunching: Choose this division if you wish to crunch projects that do not utilize GPUs.
- GPU Crunching: Choose this division if you wish to crunch projects that do utilize GPUs.
Update: Due to stat limitations and not wanting to exclude production, a contestant who signs up under one crunching division (either GPU or CPU) will still be able to crunch in the other division. You are still only required to crunch/fold in the division you sign up for, this simply allows for no production to be ignored by our stats. This does not affect folding in any way.
Scoring:
This is different than the folding/crunching points you receive for each work unit. This score represents your team's ranking in the contest. Each division on each team will receive points based on it's ranking in the contest.
- 1st: 4 Points
- 2nd: 2 Points
- 3rd: 1 Points
- 4th: 0 Points
Points:
There is no throttling during this challenge. You fold or crunch as much or as little as you would like during the contest. Everything you can do helps your team. The only limit is that we request bigadv folders be honest and place themselves in the bigadv division. If this is abused, you may be moved to the other division, or removed from the contest entirely.
Crunching Project List:
Thanks to Punchy's Awesome work with the crunching stats, we are able to include 144 projects in our stat collections! Now, many of those are inactive projects, but this is certainly allows you to choose anything you want to work on.
| GPU | CPU |
| Collatz Conjecture | Docking@Home |
| Distributed Rainbow Table Gen | World Community Grid |
| Einstein@Home | malariacontrol.net |
| GPU Grid | POEM@Home |
| MilkyWay@Home | Asteroids@Home |
| Moo! Wrapper | EON |
| PrimeGrid | Enigma@Home |
| Seti@Home | Rosetta@Home |
| and more... |
As you can see, the majority of the projects are CPU based, but the large points projects are under GPU. You are allowed to use your CPU to work on GPU projects, but those points will remain under the GPU division. It is up to you to choose your distribution of projects, whether it be a points strategy or project interest. During sign-up, you will still be allowed to list projects you are interested in having in the contest. You are NOT limited to the projects you suggest. This is simply for us to double check our list is accurate.
To those who have signed up before the list was published, please PM me if you need to change divisions.
