Suzanne Scotten received her BA in Spanish and is credentialed to teach both English and Spanish. She began teaching as a second career in 2000 and received the Milken National Educator Award in 2005. In 2011, The Heroes Project was one of eighty projects chosen to participate in the National Microsoft Innovative Educators Forum in Seattle, Washington. The project was also presented at the Region 3 CTAP conference in 2012.
The Heroes Project was started to bring diversity into Scotten’s classroom, but it has grown to become a year-long venture to bring awareness, understanding and compassion to her students. Students research and find a ‘hero’...someone who has either overcome great adversity, or has done something to heal the planet. Samples of student work are on her website: http://www.mrsscotten.com/heroes.html | Olivia Conn received her BA in Social Studies and her Master’s in Educational Technology.
