Continental Portuguese or European Portuguese was the inicial Portuguese root for the language. From Portugal it was taken to the other countries where it is spoken today: Angola, Mozambique, Brazil, West-Timor, Sao Tome e Principe, Macau, Cape Verde and Guine-Bissau. There are some variants of the language and the variant most different from the initial root is the Brazilian Portuguese. That is why, if you go to Africa, it makes sense to come all the way to Portugal to learn Portuguese, or learn on line the European Portuguese
