How to change the universe a report is mapped to:

In some cases, a report builder may need to change the universe that a particular query in a report is built on. For example, if a report was built on an old universe or the report builder has created a custom universe for the report to improve performance. Below are best practice instructions for editing the universe a particular query is mapped to; the instructions assume that the new universe already exists and is available for use.

1. Save a copy of the report to the  My Favorites folder with a logical name (something like "[Report Name] OLD" is usually effective). This step guarantees that the older version of the report is archived in case anything goes wrong with the changes.

2. Open the current version of the report again (not the "OLD" version), and click Edit. Once the report is in Edit Mode, click the Edit Query button on the top left.

3. Select the Properties tab of the Query Panel on the top left.

4. The universe selected will appear on this tab. To change the universe selected, click the small ellipsis button next to the universe name.

5. Allow the pop-up to load (this can take a minute or two)-- a window will appear with all the universes available.

6. Select the universe you would like the report to run from and click OK. *TIP*: click the column header "Name" to alphabetize the list and re-size the column to make it easier to read the full universe name.

7. Notice the check box for "Apply changes into all document queries sharing the same universe". If you are working in a report with multiple queries and you have developed a custom universe for each query, uncheck this box to allow for a separate universe selection for each query.

8. A new window will display each element included in the objects and filters of the query from the old universe and a corresponding element from the new universe. A direct match will show a green check mark, but these should still be checked. If the field is not available in the new query, red 'X' will display. A yellow ellipsis will be display if the match is not exact.

9. If the new universe's corresponding element needs to be adjusted, click the ellipsis to select the correct element from the new universe.

10. Once each dimension has been paired click OK. The new universe name should be reflected in the Properties on the left report pane.

11. Run the report and verify that the results match the report before being edited.

12. Don't forget to save!
