Tired of always riding on the flats!?!? Here's your chance to break away from your normal weekend ride routine and experience the enchanted landscape of the Navajo Indians of Northern Arizona. Velo Cadence Coaching will be taking a select group of riders to it's high altitude climbing camp in these high mountains for 3 awe-inspiring days this May. Individual and group coaching sessions teach climbing and descending skills, allow you to enjoy the camaraderie of other cyclists and leave you with unforgettable experiences to last a lifetime.
Join myself and the rest of the Velo Cadence staff in Scottsdale Arizona, Thursday evening May 28th where you and nine other adventurous riders will begin your journey into the sacred land of the Thunder bird. Nicknamed the "Tour De Thunder bird" this 3 day journey will cover nearly 300 miles and gain over 20,000 feet in elevation!!! Your first day starts as you climb your way off of the desert floor in Scottsdale and ride up to the quaint pine tree shaded village of Strawberry. Day twoclimbs even further up to the high plateau where riders will pass by alpine lakes on their way to a summit finish above the treeline on San Francisco Mtn. Our final day starts along historic Route 66 in Flagstaff Arizona, before dropping 1,000 feet through Oak Creek Canyon on a hair raising, 20 mile descent to the picturesque town of Sedona. After a short crossing of the valley floor riders will pass through the legendary Ghost Town of Jerome as we climb over 3,000 feet to cross the 7,000+ foot high Mingus Mtn. Pass. Riders will be rewarded for making the ascent by descending the final 30 miles into Arizona's first capitol; Prescott.
