New Business:  Mr. Garza told council that focus groups are working on ESLRs and looking towards towards our significant sub groups.    Additionally, establish expected gains for underperforming students and how best to serve that sub-group.  Garza told the council we are one student away from the free and reduced lunch program becoming a significant sub group.

Our current action plan courts the middle student.  AVID and Link Crew is designed to support the middle student and funding is encumbered to continue with both programs.

Budget presented by Mr. Garza to council showing what was encumbered from 2006/2007 school year and carryovers and what is budgeted for the 2007/2008 school year.  Garza told council that ESUSD is in better shape than most districts and we may have to tighten our belts but for right now, it’s business as usual.

Karen Boden confirmed the dates for the program called “Dawn’s Light” about a Japanese man who was placed in the campus during World War II.  This program will be shown to all students at the high school on March 26th during Awareness Week.    Additionally, Boden secured a third date for an evening performance at no extra charge to the school and with the understanding from the East West Players that the school can invite the community, charge for the performance and keep all the money.  The proceeds will be split between the drama department and ASB.  Jennifer Hedayat, Drama Teacher has agreed to spearhead the fundraising event.

Mr. Garza reported that he had attended a negotiations seminar for 3 days in San Diego and how much he got out of this process.  He will be representing the district on the teacher/district negotiations team.

Mr. Garza suggested we invite Branka Cvejic to attend the next meeting as the state may be adopting new English Language standards.  Math is also being considered and Karen Boden, a site council member, will address the math portion.
