Wednesday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary

Time I:                                                                                                 God’s Inner Life is the One, True Sacrifice

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 8:6-13, 20-22
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 116:12-13, 14-15, 18-19
Gospel: Mark 8:22-26

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar (NRSV, Gen 8:20).

Let us pray.

Father, from the very beginning, we have tried to offer you gifts to seek forgiveness for our sins or to win favors from you.

The only true sacrifice, we have learned from Jesus, is the mutual giving of Father and Son that is the Holy Spirit.

Jesus lived out this sacrifice in every moment and manifested it most clearly in his death on the Cross.

We too, Father, by saying “yes” to your gift of your own divine life, offered in every moment through your Word, can also be caught up in this sacrifice which alone brings atonement, union with you and with all of our sisters and brothers here and in the world to come.

We pray, Father, that we may be one with you and your Word in the Holy Spirit now and forever more.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
