A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Rembrandt van Rijn, The Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard,  The Hermitage, St. Petersburg, 1637

Wednesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary time I:    God Owes Nothing; All is Gift

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Judges 9:6-15
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 21:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16

“Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous (NRSV, Matthew 20:15)?”

Let us pray.

Father, everything that we are and everything that we have is gift from you.  Whatever we accomplish is done in your life and power given through the Word in the Holy Spirit.  May we be always grateful and glorify your infinite generosity.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
