Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Guercino: The Angel Appears to Hagar and Ishmael, National Gallery, London,  1652-53

Wednesday of the Thirteenth week in Ordinary Time:     Curse into Blessing

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Genesis 21:5, 8-20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 34:7-8, 10-11, 12-13
Gospel: Matthew 8:28-34

[God said,] ‘Come, lift up the boy and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make a great nation of him (NRSV, Genesis 21:13).’

Let us pray,

Father, in all of our moments of difficulty, it is not you who have placed us in them, but it is you who call us out of them, empowering us in every situation to turn what only appears to be curse into blessing not only for ourselves but for others.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
