Tuesday 9th Ord I

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

John Singleton Copley: The Tribute Money, Royal academy of Arts, London, 1782

Tuesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time:

Choose first the Kingdom of God

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Tobit 2:9-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 112:1-2, 7-8, 9
Gospel: Mark 12:13-17

Jesus said to them, ‘Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s (NRSV, Mark, 12:17).’

Let us pray.

Jesus has taught us that there is only one reality that finally matters:  you, Father, and your coming kingdom.  Allegiance cannot be divided you and Caesar.  We must learn to choose you first and then to organize all else in our lives under that choice.

May everything that we do, Father, be in response to the gift of your life that you share with us.  But your gift is not a summons to abandon the world.  Having first accepted you into our lives, may we then share your gift with all of our sisters and brothers.  May the gift of your life in turn give meaning to everything else that we do.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
