Tuesday 2nd Lent

A Pilgrim's Daily Prayer

Called through the Word to the everlasting journey in the Spirit

from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Unknown Illustrator of Jerome Nadal's 'Evangelicae Historiae Imagines:’ Jesus and the Pharisees, 1593

Second Tuesday of Lent:                                  The Greatest is the Servant

Readings for Mass
First Reading: Isaiah 1:10, 16-20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 50:8-9, 16-17, 21, 23
Gospel: Matthew 23:1-12

The greatest among you will be your servant (NRSV, Mt, 23:11).”

Let us pray.

Father, in Jesus we have had to unlearn so much of what we thought had been certain.  Jesus taught us new meanings for priest and sacrifice.  Also for glory and honor.  Jesus has taught us that whoever would be first should seek out the last place, and not in a pretended manner in order to be called up to the first place.  Jesus has taught us that the greatest among us is truly the one who actually serves all of the others and is ready to give his life for his sisters and brothers.

May we accept into our lives from you, Father, the strength and power to follow Jesus in all that he said and did.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
