from nothingness to union with the One who is the Beginning and the End

Alexander Master, Christ Sets a Child Among the Disciples, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, c. 1430

Tuesday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time I:       Unless you Become like Children . . .

Readings for Mass

First Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8
Responsorial Psalm: Deuteronomy 32:3-4, 7, 8, 9, 12
Gospel: Matthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven (NRSV, Matthew 18:3).’

Let us pray.

Father, A child receives everything they have from others.  May we recognize, as well, that there is nothing that we can do for ourselves but that all is gift from you.  May we accept what you offer to us, especially the gift of divine life, rejoice in it, make it our own, grow in it and in turn share it with others.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
