Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time:          God is Always Near

Readings for Mass

First Reading: Genesis 32:23-33
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 17:1, 2-3, 6-7, 8, 15
Gospel: Matthew 9:32-38

So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved (NRSV, Genesis 32:30).”

Let us pray.

Father, in a moment of enlightenment Jacob realized how close you were to him, even that he had seen you face to face. May we, in response to the challenge of the Word, recognize your presence to us at every moment, closer to us than we are to ourselves. May we grow constantly in the life that you offer to us in every situation.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
