Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time: Growth in Love
Readings for Mass
Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these (NRSV, Mark 12:29-31).’
Let us pray.
Father, at every moment of our existence, even from that first moment in the womb, you challenge us to grow in your own divine life, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to live out that life in love. As we grow in your life, and thus in our ability to love, we grow as well in our understanding of what love means. Father, may we never become fixed in our understanding, not only about love, but about everything you reveal to us through the Word, once and for all, and in every moment.
To be human is to grow. May we ever grow, above all else, in your life and love, in what we understand and what we do.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
